Rachida Dati, a member of the French Senate and member of theEuropean Parliament, has issued a statement addressing the death of civilians in the Alkhanli village of Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli district as a consequence of Armenian shelling.

Mirvari Fataliyeva, the Chairwoman of the Paris-based Azerbaijan House, said in a statement to APA that the statement first offered condolences to the family members of the victims and called for an end to killing innocent people.

The statement underscores the need to observe the norms and principles of international law in order for the [Nagorno-Karabakh conflict] to be resolved.

"Violence can never be a solution. The OSCE Minsk Group demands the parties to cease hostilities,” the MEP said in her statement. We demand the OSCE take on a more concrete obligation for the protection of civilians and for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity to be respected.”

Rachida Dati urged Armenia to put an immediate end to targeting civilians for its unfounded and illegitimate political demands.

On July 4 at about 20:40 (GMT+4 hours), the Armenian armed forces again violated ceasefire and, using 82-mm and 120-mm mortars and grenade launchers, shelled Azerbaijani positions and territories where the civilian population lives, namely the Alkhanli village of the country’s Fuzuli district, thereby grossly violating the requirements of international law, the Azerbaijani defense ministry said earlier.

As a result of this provocation, the residents of the village Sahiba Guliyeva, 50, and Zakra Guliyeva, 2, were killed. Sarvinaz Guliyeva, 52, was wounded.
