The Georgia’s Interior Ministry has issued an official statement on the shooting of Jeyhun Chovdarov, a ruling Georgian Dream Party candidate for municipality membership in Kizilhajili village of Marneuli district and three persons accompanying him.
On October 19, unknown persons opened fire at four people near the election headquarters of the Georgian Dream party in Kizilhajili village of Marneuli district. "The injured were taken to the hospital. Their lives are not in danger. Investigation is underway with charges of the intentionally inflicting serious injuries under the Criminal Code,” the statement said.
Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili visited the scene after the incident and familiarized with the details of the investigation and the state of the wounded.
According to the Marneuli hospital, the condition of the wounded is stable. They did not need to be taken to the Tbilisi hospital. Health Minister David Sergeenko, who visited the hospital last night, said another man was also injured during the incident. At present, expert-criminals continue investigation in the scene.
