No "genocide" for Armenians, just "great tragedy", Trump says

US President Donald Trump once again declined to call the events of 1915 a "genocide”, the US media reported citing the official statement of the White House.

The US president, just as before, used an Armenian term translated as "a great tragedy”.

The former US presidents, starting from 1981, including Barack Obama, also refused to call the historical events a "genocide”. Obama, however, had promised during his election campaign to use the term, while Trump never made such a pledge.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire, allegedly carried out "genocide” against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide” in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.
