Leyla Aliyeva meets with UNICEF regional director

On November 22, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva met with Afshan Khan, the UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia (ECA) who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.

 

Leyla Aliyeva praised UNICEF's efforts to improve the situation of children all over the world and stressed that ensuring the well-being, health and education of children is the most valuable asset for the future. She hailed the great progress Azerbaijan has made in this field in recent years.

 

Leyla Aliyeva expressed confidence that the work in this are will continue and expand even more.

 

Underlining the importance of educating children in the filed of environmental protection, Leyla Aliyeva briefed the UNICEF official on numerous projects implemented by IDEA Public Union over the last six years to increase the environmental awareness of children, as well as on eco laboratories, camps, courses and publications.

 

Afshan Khan, in turn, expressed her gratitude to Leyla Aliyeva for her active efforts aimed to inform children about environment and sustainable development issues. She noted that UNICEF is interested in incorporating climate change, sustainability and other environmental issues into the curriculum and highly appreciated the activities of IDEA.

 

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for possible cooperation on environmental education of children, as well as exchanged views on issues of integration of children with disabilities into society, their social protection, rehabilitation and education.
