Elmar Mammadyarov: New agreement with EU creates important framework for comprehensive development of relations

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received a delegation led by the Deputy Secretary General of the European Union, Political Director for the European External Action Service (EEAS) Jean-Christophe Belliard on Oct.10.
 
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union and the course of negotiations on the draft strategic partnership agreement.
 
Elmar Mammadyarov noted that the new agreement covers political, economic, trade, transport, energy, humanitarian and other spheres and created an important framework for the comprehensive development of Azerbaijan's relations with the European Union. The sides also emphasized that the negotiations on the open skies agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan are being successfully continued.
 
Jean-Christophe Belliard praised the stability and economic reforms carried out in Azerbaijan, including ASAN service. 

 

During the meeting, the visit of the delegation of the EU Committee for Political and Security and ambassadors of EU member states accredited at the Committee, Azerbaijani president’s receiving the delegation and the broad discussions held, were discussed. It was mentioned that the visit significantly contributed to the development of dialogue between the EU and Azerbaijan.

 

Providing information on the negotiation process for the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Elmar Mammadyarov said that for the soonest settlement of the conflict and change of the unacceptable status quo, Armenia must withdraw its armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council.   

 

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, as well as on the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit.
